Historic Theater in
NYC’s East Village

A photo of the Connelly's stage, which has a pressed-tin proscenium painted gold, a black floor and stage walls, and an unlit ghostly center stage.

Iconic.

Originally build in the 1860s as the choir hall for an orphanage, the Connelly Theater Mainstage is like no other in New York City. The distinctive gold proscenium, raised stage and generous wing space, and intimate, flexible seating configuration have made it a coveted venue for adventurous independent theater, and an iconic location for major film and television productions.

Our iconic space is home to two theaters.

Seating 99 or up to 165, the Connelly Mainstage is unique in New York City—a classic proscenium stage in an intimate house.

The newly opened Upstairs is a 51-seat 3/4 thrust studio theater.

The Connelly’s historic gold proscenium and movable seating risers have made it a highly desirable location for both period and contemporary projects.

Film & Television

Our 23’ x 30’ rehearsal studio has sprung floors, a piano, air conditioning and wifi. It’s available for lockouts and daily use, and is especially perfect for productions moving into the theater next door.
